SOFT LAUNCH OF IME

The soft launch of The Indian Music Experience - the first of its kind music museum was held between 18 & 20 May 2018, in conjunction with International Museum Day. The event was attended by over 1500 visitors. This marked the culmination of 8 years in the effort of setting up this unique museum, that features state-of-the-art digital interactives, instrument displays, storyboards, listening kiosks and mini-theatres. While final sprucing up of the museum galleries is underway, doors will soon be opened to the public.

Gauhar Jaan was India’s first recording artist and her album was released in 1902 by the Gramophone Company. She released over 600 records through her career. She was so famous that her face was used to sell matchboxes in Austria. She was known to throw lavish parties, and once spent Rs. 20,000 for a celebration when her pet cat gave birth to kittens!



INDIAN MUSIC EXPERIENCE RECEIVES THE TAMBURA OF BHARAT RATNA MS SUBBULAKSHMI

IME receives the Tambura of Bharat Ratna MS Subbulakshmi

At a ceremony held on 26 January 2018 V Shrinivasan, grandson of the late Carnatic maestro - MS Subbulakshmi presented memorabilia such as her prized Tambura, a Sari she wore and a copy of Mahatma Gandhi's letter to her.
These were received by SM Krishna, Chairman of the Indian Music Experience's Advisory Board. The function was preceded by a concert where S Aishwarya & S Saundarya, great-granddaughters of MS Subbulakshmi performed a few of her famous compositions.
